Leones del Caracas

The Leones del Caracas (Caracas Lions) are a professional baseball team of the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP) based in Caracas , Venezuela . They are the most successful team in Venezuela.

Many of the team's players come from major league baseball and play so-called winter baseball with the Leones during the non-game period in North America. They won 17th in the 2009/2010 season and are the current championship holders of the league. Twice, in 1982 and 2006, the Leones could also win the Caribbean title in the series del Caribe .

history

The club was founded in 1952 when Pablo Morales and Oscar "El Negro" Prieto took over the team of the Cervecería Caracas . The stadium of the Leones is the Estadio Universitario de Caracas, opened in 1951 on the campus of the Universidad Central de Venezuela , which offers space for around 25,000 spectators.
