history
There is no exact and official version of how or when baseball came to Venezuela and was introduced to the Venezuelans. However, it is historically confirmed that during the last decade of the 19th century, Venezuelan students brought the sport with them from the United States.
Organized baseball in Venezuela developed in the region of Maracaibo at the beginning of the 20th century , also through Cuban and American influence, a boom with at times up to 30 teams playing in 10 different stadiums built for baseball .
In 1938 the first baseball world championship took place in England , from 1939 to 1943 in Cuba and from 1940 Venezuela also took part with its national team. With its second participation in 1941 Venezuela even became world champions . This triggered a new boom in their own country. In 1944 and 1945 Venezuela repeated its success and was again two world champions.
The popularity of the sport and international success led to the establishment of the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional on December 27, 1945. The founding teams were: Cervecería Caracas (forerunner of the Leones del Caracas ), Navegantes del Magallanes , Sabios del Vargas and Patriotas de Venezuela .
