The German Society for Military Medicine and Military Pharmacy (DGWMP) is a medical society .

The aim of the company is to promote military medical research and practice, specifically including dentistry, veterinary medicine and military pharmacy. The DGWMP has around 3800 members (as of September 2009), most of whom are active or former medical officers of the Bundeswehr. In addition, there are around 1700 members of the partner association Deutscher SanOA eV , most of whom are "double members" in both associations due to a cooperation. This cooperation has existed since 2007. It is intended to facilitate contact and communication across all rank groups - from the SanOA student to the general practitioner - and to make the representation of interests more effective for the members of both associations.

The president of the society is Jürgen Blätzinger, senior medical officer a. D. Seat of the company is Bonn , there is also the federal office. The DGWMP is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies .

history

The association sees itself as the successor to the Berlin Military Medical Society founded in 1864 (from 1920 "German Military Medical Society"). It was re-established on June 19, 1954 in Bonn, now as the "Association of Former Medical Officers" with the motto "Scientiae - Humanitati - Patriae". The society has had its current name since June 30, 1973, the full title in accordance with the statutes is "German Society for Military Medicine and Wehrpharmazie eV (DGWMP) - Association of German Medical Officers (VdSO) -".

structure

The society is led by a president who is a member of the executive committee , which can consist of up to eleven members . The members of the executive committee are elected by the general assembly for three years. The Presidial Advisory Board advises the Presidium and consists of representatives of the subdivisions of the association:

  • the division groups represent the interests of the members in a region and organize their own events. Local groups can be set up as a further subdivision .
  • the group SanOA and young SanOffz represents the interests of the dual members nationwide within the framework of the cooperation with the German SanOA eV
  • The working groups serve the cooperation of all interested members on a topic:
  1. Emergency medicine (ARCHIS)
  2. History and ethics of military medicine
  3. Dentistry
  4. Veterinary medicine
  5. Defense pharmacy
  6. Military professional service officers
  7. SanOA / young SanOffz
  8. Health professions
  9. ARKOS (AK of conservative medical officers)

Events

In the association year 2009, the DGWMP organized 131 day events with around 7500 participants, as well as seven multi-day events with a total of around 2000 participants. With regard to the participants - mostly active medical officers - the company sees itself as an important player in the training, further education and training of officers in the medical service of the Bundeswehr.

The company has been awarding the Paul Schürmann Prize, endowed with 6,000 euros (as of 2011), since 1968 .

Publications

The DGWMP supports the editorial team of the military medical monthly with medical information. The monthly magazine is published by the Federal Ministry of Defense and published by Beta Verlag. Beta Verlag publishes the quarterly magazine Wehrmedizin und Wehrpharmazie , which is published by the association.
