Lepyrus capucinus , also known as the legume weevil , is a beetle from the family of weevils (Curculionidae).

description

The red-brown squat beetles are 8–11 mm long. They are covered with long, narrow scales. There is a light spot on the wing covers at the end of the 5th space.

distribution

The beetle species is widespread in Europe. They occur in the east as far as Siberia, in the north as far as Denmark and southern Sweden. It is quite common in Central Europe. The species is rare in southern England. Lepyrus capucinus was introduced into North America .

Way of life

The polyphagous beetles are particularly found on willows , alders and blackberries ( Rubus ). The beetles can be seen from mid-March to October.
