Les Chartreux (Lyon)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Les Chartreux is a district in the 1st arrondissement (Lyon) of Lyon near Clos Jouve on the Croix-Rousse plateau . The Chartreux Institute , a college and private high school, is located in the district .

When the monks of the Chartreuse of Lys Saint-Esprit left the monastery in La Croix-Rousse during the revolution, Caroline Boudet ( Madame Choussy ) gathered a few girls in the former Chartreuse. Together with Father Furnio, she drew up a statute for a congregation , which was recognized by the Church in 1824. The community grew: that was the beginning of the constant veneration of the Sacred Heart (fr: Adoration perpétuelle du Sacré-Cœur). Today the monastery is the Lycée privé Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle and also includes the Église Sacré-Cœur from 1803, which was never consecrated.
