Les Échos is the daily financial newspaper with the largest circulation in the French-speaking world. It has been owned by the luxury goods group LVMH since 2007 .

history

The paper was founded in 1908 by the brothers Robert and Émile Servan-Schreiber and went to daily publication in 1928. In 1953, initiated by Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber , a supplement appeared under the name L'Express , which later became independent.

After the paper had meanwhile belonged to the Beytout family (under the leadership of Jacqueline and Nicolas Beytout), it was acquired in 1988 by the British media group Pearson and run as a subsidiary of the Financial Times . In November 2007, Pearson announced the sale of the newspaper for 240 million euros to the luxury goods company LVMH of billionaire Bernard Arnault ; the authorities did not veto.
