The German Post AG has 1997 Letternet founded. At times with more than 500,000 members from over 160 countries, Letternet was the largest free club that found pen pals worldwide. The offer was aimed at young people from the age of eight who wanted to make contacts in Germany and around the world. The club was closed on January 16, 2014.

Until 2008

In order to become a member of the Letternet and find pen pals, it was necessary to fill out and send in a questionnaire with personal data such as address and personal preferences until 2008. From a database, new matching pen friends were found again and again, whose addresses were sent to you. The selection criteria included a. gender, nationality, interests and language.

Lettermag

The Lettermag was the club magazine of Letternet, got the each registered member sent. Lettermag was discontinued in favor of the Letternet website . In the Letternet online portal you can find articles on cultural events or country portraits. Letternet offers background information on the countries from which the members come.

2009 to 2014

When switching to an online portal, online registration with personal data such as address and personal preferences was necessary. The new members can then search for suitable pen pals worldwide in a database. You send a contact request directly online to your desired pen pal. As soon as he confirms the contact request, both of them are shown the other's postal address. Now you can start writing letters. Letternet was shut down on January 16, 2014. The relationship between cost and demand was no longer in balance.
