Singles

The first single was released on May 21, 2007, almost four months before the album was released, the song Wall to Wall , which only reached 79th place on the Billboard Hot 100 and was not much more successful in Europe.

On September 18, the second single from the album, Kiss Kiss , was released, in which the rapper T-Pain participated. The song clearly surpassed the success of the first single and reached number one in the USA, and it also entered the top ten of the charts in many countries. In Europe, the song was again not placed in the upper chart regions, in Germany it was not even in the hit lists.

The third single was released on December 11, 2007 under the name With You and is behind Forever the most successful release of the album. It was only ranked second in the USA, but eighth in the United Kingdom, third in Ireland and 33rd in Germany.

The fourth song Take You Down was released on April 1, 2008 exclusively for Urban radio stations . It then reached number 43 in the US. The song was released in the UK on January 12, 2009 to promote Brown's UK tour. However, it did not reach a chart position.

On April 19, 2008, the song Forever was released , the fifth single from the album and the first from the re-released version of the CD under the name Exclusive: The Forever Edition . The song is the most successful single on the album and was ranked number two in the US, number four in the UK, and number 20 in Germany.

The sixth and final single on the album was called Superhuman and was also on the Exclusive: The Forever Edition . Keri Hilson is involved in the song as a guest musician. It is the first and so far only Brown single that did not enter the US charts. In Germany, the song also did not reach a ranking, in the United Kingdom it was temporarily ranked 32nd.

reception

The album got average to good reviews, scoring 69% on Metascore . This makes it Brown's most successful album to date in this rating ( Graffiti : 39%; FAME : 52%). The rating was based on ten reviews. The New York Times compared the album to its predecessor, Chris Brown, and wrote that if Brown thought about it, he might find that his old approach ("playful beats, flirtatious turn-ons") worked as well as ever. Entertainment Weekly criticized her selection of guest musicians and believed that Brown's youthful voice and playful slyness are "overwhelmed" by "intrusive guest musicians." PopMatters magazine criticized the concept of the album, stating that it seemed aimless. The Prefix Magazine ruled on the talent of Brown and wrote that Brown's current successful than others, more talented artist is his genre, however, is by no means untalented and also possess the ability to deliver high-quality "club hits". Sal Cinquemani , the author of the review for Slant Magazine , was not really convinced of the album and was also of the opinion that the name "Exclusive" does not do the album justice. Nothing about the album is really posh (en: "exclusive"). Allmusic wrote in its review that Brown, its songwriters and producers had to be credited for continuing to produce easy-to-remember songs on the assembly line, ranging from happy and carefree hits to ballads. Greg Kot , a reviewer for the Chicago Tribune newspaper , was impressed by Brown's charisma, but also said that the singer had not really "grown into" his own sound and had not yet developed his own identity, but his charisma and his requirements did would give the opportunity to change that in the next couple of years. Allison Stewart of The Washington Post compared Brown to the artists Nelly , Usher, and Michael Jackson for his "extremely malleable, highly marketable personality ." The famous moonwalk of the latter was often imitated by Brown in a modified form during live performances. Brown is like "Nelly without joints, Usher without his annoying wife and Michael Jackson without his illness".

Awards and nominations

Numerous singles on the album were nominated for various awards, the song Kiss Kiss, for example, even for a Grammy . The album itself was nominated for a NAACP Image Award in the Outstanding Album category, but lost to the album As I Am by artist Alicia Keys .
