Levinger & Bissinger , from 1909 Heinrich Levinger , was a jewelry and bijoutery manufacturing company from Pforzheim that was founded by Heinrich Levinger before 1893. The company is particularly known for its Art Nouveau jewelry.

history

In 1881 Heinrich Levinger was listed for the first time in the Pforzheim address book as a jewelry dealer. In 1893 he ran a gold and silver goods factory in the city, in which, among other things, fantasy articles were produced. In addition to the jewelry manufacturer Theodor Fahrner , Levinger & Bissinger was one of the most famous jewelry manufacturers in Pforzheim.

In 1899, after the death of the company founder, the company was continued by Emil Levinger and, from 1901, produced modern silver jewelry. In 1903, the designer Karl Bissinger († 1920) joined the company as an equal and artistic partner, which was then renamed Levinger & Bissinger . At this point in time, Bissinger had already taken part in several jewelry competitions and won prizes. For example at the FW Müller competition or in 1902 for the 25th anniversary of the Kunstgewerbe-Verein Pforzheim, the CA Schmitz jubilee award . After Bissinger joined the company, some of the pieces of jewelry were marked with three different hallmarks : a ligated HL , H and L or, more rarely, LB , which was also ligated.

In addition to designs by Karl Bissinger, the company also produced jewelry based on designs by the Austrian artisan Otto Prutscher and the Pforzheim artist Georg Kleemann . Bissinger left the company after a few years. From 1909 it was continued by Emil Berthold Levinger under the name Heinrich Levinger . The company no longer exists today.
