Li Linfu ( Chinese  李林甫 , Pinyin Lǐ Línfǔ ; † January 3, 753 ), Duke of Jin ( 晉 公 ), called Genu ( 哥 奴 ), was a top official of the Tang Dynasty . Among other things, he served from 734 to 752, i.e. 18 years, as Chancellor under Emperor Xuanzong . This represents the longest reign of a chancellor in the history of the Tang Dynasty.

As Chancellor, he had, among other things, the authority to deploy and fire the military, which gave him enormous power. Li was known for his flattery towards the emperor and his skill in the political scene. He had potential rivals removed from the civil service or killed, often under false accusations. In addition, he also promoted people who should support his politics. Above all, An Lushan should be mentioned here, who was to succeed Li's in 752. After Li Linfu died in 753 the following year and An Lushan ran the risk of being killed as an unloved pupil, An instigated the An Lushan Rebellion . The resulting civil war should cost around 2/3 of the Chinese population at the time, which corresponded to a decline in the global population of 16%.
