Dragonfly (mineralogy)
In mineralogy, the term dragonfly is used to describe the gas bubbles in minerals that are sometimes contained in liquid inclusions . The liquids in the inclusions can be residues of the mother liquor or hydrothermal solution in which the mineral was formed, but also sea water such as halite or gypsum .
Dragonflies are mainly found with the minerals amethyst , quartz , gypsum and halite.
Minerals with dragonflies are coveted gemstones , but because of their great sensitivity, they are seldom processed in a polished form.
