libusb is a program library written in C for writing and reading from USB devices. Here, libusb manages without its own kernel modules under Linux. libusb is currently available for Linux , BSD and macOS . In addition, there is a port to Windows systems with libusb-win32 . The libusb library is used by SANE , the Linux scanner project, among others .

The now than libusb designated project was in April 2012 as libusbx forked and again in January 2014 libusb renamed. The fork was not discussed in the community or with the maintainer.
