A light tent (also called a photo tent or mini studio) is an area lighting device, especially for studio photography through to moderate macro photography. Analogous to the light tray or the ring flash , it serves to illuminate the respective motif as evenly and softly as possible, without shadows.

construction

The light tent is a surrounding of the motif with translucent, scattering material, for example in the shape of a tent, which is illuminated from the outside. Due to the respective design, a soft, shadow-poor to shadow-free lighting effect is created, but compared to direct lighting, it is weaker.

The often used technique of indirect flashing and the use of the various reflectors in studio technology can be viewed as a variation of the light tent method for larger subjects. The reflective space or the reflectors represent the (imaginary) tent space.
