The love monument in Hahnholz in Leipzig-Kleinzschocher

The love monument (also friendship stone ) is a heavily weathered sandstone pillar located in the Hahnholz district in the Leipzig floodplain forest in the Kleinzschocher district .

The column rests on a base and is over two meters high. The headboard has decorations in the Biedermeier style. Underneath, on two opposite pages, the words “love” and “joy” can be deciphered with difficulty. The popular name of the object refers to the former.

In 1812 the Leipzig merchant Johann David Förster (1747-1817) acquired the Kleinzschocher manor. In the following years his son of the same name redesigned the nearby Hahnholz into a public park. The love monument was also erected within this project. The park was included in the Kleinzschocher Volkspark in the 1920s .
