The term lover denotes

  • a man with whom a married person is in an extramarital affair . The meaning includes in older times z. Sometimes also the non-sexual, but erotically tinged relationship with an admirer who regularly pays his respects to a lady of the nobility or upper middle class ( cf.Cicisbeo )
  • a person who shows great love and / or fascination for something:
    • especially in the arts, see dilettante , amateur , connoisseur or collector
    • comparable to the term fan in other areas , but the fan is often seen as the heightened form of the "fanatical" lover
  • of which the term derived hobby , the legal as opposed to an activity with profit is
  • a person in their capacity as a sexual partner
