history

During the time of the order, Liep was a small fishing village. The place is mentioned in 1338 as Lipa , 1446 as Lieppe , 1785 as Liepe , and only from 1802 the name Liep prevailed. Liep belonged to the parish of Löbenicht . Königsberger bankers and wholesalers set up the Königsberger Zellstoff-Fabrik AG where the rafts of wood from the Memel over the Curonian Lagoon and the Deime were landed at the city limits near Liep. It turned out that this location was indeed favorable for the supply of wood was, but not for the supply of coal and the removal of the finished products. That is why the Norddeutsche Zellulose AG was founded in 1906/07 in the Kosse district . Both plants exported to England.

In 1913, one of the three important pumping stations for urban sewage was built in Liep. Up until the end of the 19th century, the town's faeces were collected twice a week by wagons and spread out in the fields outside the town gates. From 1904 an approximately 30 km long, partly open sewer was laid to Fischhausen .

In 1905 Liep was incorporated into the municipality of Königsberg. After the completion of the railway, Liep became attractive as a new housing estate. After the fall of Königsberg, Hugo Linck looked after the remnants of his Lieper community until 1948.
