Liero

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liero is a computer game for DOS . It was created in 1999 by the Finnish programmer Joosa Riekkinen . The game is often described as a real-time version of Worms or a 2D version of Quake . Liero is the Finnish word for worm .

Goal of the game

In the game, two worms fight each other in an underground landscape made of earth and stones. Each worm has a freely selectable range of weapons with which it tries to kill its opponent. The explosions caused by cannons, mines, machine guns, grenades, etc., over time "erode" the earth until finally only stones are left. By using the "ninja rope" you can swing from stone to stone during the battle to get into a strategically better position or to avoid enemy attacks. By collecting ammunition boxes, the player can get new weapons or first aid kits during combat. A worm dies when the enemy has hit it so often that it has used up all of its “life energy”. The winner is the player who kills his opponent as often as previously specified.

Modifications

OpenLieroX

With the help of various programs such as LieroKit (weapon editor) and Wormhole (level editor), you can largely change the game in a very simple way. In this way, well over 100 total conversions have occurred since the game was released.

There are numerous Liero clones for Linux , Windows and Mac OS X , for example Liero Xtreme , Gusanos , Wurmz , NiL and OpenLieroX .
