The interspinous ligament ("inter- spinous ligament ") is one of the short spinal ligaments . It spans between the adjacent spinous processes of the vertebrae and extends from their base to the tip. At the tip of the spinous process it is connected to the supraspinous ligament , and at the base to the ligamentum flavum . In the area of ​​the cervical spine , the ligamenta interspinalia are only slightly developed; they are strongest in the area of ​​the lumbar spine .
