Ligny (Belgium)

Ligny [ liˈɲi ] ( Walloon Lignè) is a former municipality in the Belgian province of Namur with around 2000 inhabitants.

Ligny has been part of Sombreffe since the local government reform of 1977 .

Ligny is best known as the site of the Battle of Ligny on June 16, 1815, the last battle won by Napoléon Bonaparte two days before the Battle of Waterloo . Ligny is a member of the Federation of European Napoleonic Cities .
