Like the Way I Do is a rock song by Melissa Etheridge from her debut album Melissa Etheridge from 1988.

About the song

Like the Way I Do was written years before the album was recorded and previously played at Etheridge concerts. The intro of the song came about by chance when she was playing her song I Want You backwards on the tape recorder. At the same time, the song deals with the non-monogamous relationship that Etheridge was in. In the text itself she asks her partner who has developed feelings for another woman, what things the other woman would offer him that she cannot offer him; " Tell me does she love you like the way I love you, does she stimulate you, attract and captivate you". She also accuses her partner of “not trying hard enough with one's own relationship”, which she expresses with “You found out to love me you have to climb some fences” .

Music video

Like the Way I Do was the first Etheridge song to have a music video produced. The music video is about a concert in which scenes are shown from both the stage and the backstage area. The place where it plays resembles a small bar or club and has an increasingly dark atmosphere.
