Lincoln Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lincoln Records was an American record label from the 1920s.

history

Lincoln Records was founded in 1923 as a sub-label of Cameo Records to sell popular dance music from unknown bands cheaply. This filled a gap in the market for buyers who wanted to buy good music cheaply but did not care about the performers. The material for the label came from Cameo and was republished under pseudonyms so as not to compete with the more expensive Cameo records. Lincoln's plates had a drawing of President Abraham Lincoln above the label's writing .

In 1929, Cameo became part of the American Record Corporation (ARC), which took over Lincoln Records for a year, after which it ceased production. In the 1940s, the label was reissued for some publications of children's music, but was quickly taken off the shelf. In later years there were always labels under the same name, but they were in no way related to the Lincoln Records from 1923 to 1930.
