Linux weeks Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Linux Weeks are an Austrian series of events on the subject of Linux and free software, which has been held since 2002 from May to July. The individual events usually take place on a weekend in a different federal state. The Linux Weeks are the largest event on the subject of " Free Software " in Austria .

history

In 2001 the “Austrian Linux Days” took place in St. Pölten . This should be a counterpart to similar events in Germany , such as LinuxTag . The event was not the success hoped for. The Austrian open source community was only slightly involved and the venue was too far away from the target audience.

Therefore, the following year began to replace the event with a series of events that was organized by the community itself and should take place throughout the country.

organization

An association has existed since 2005 that organizes the Linux weeks. The Linux Weeks are mainly supported by regional associations and user groups such as

  • LUGA - Linux Usergroup Austria
  • Quintessence
  • Burgenland Internet Club
  • Association "Graz Linux Days"
  • Linux User Group Linz
  • Linux User Group Tirol
  • Linux user Krems
  • Voralpen Linux user group
  • FFS
  • Vienna group close to chaos

The regional events in the federal states are usually organized and carried out independently by the local user group. Admission to the events of the Austrian Linux Weeks is usually free. Funding is provided by sponsors.
