Lisowski (in the feminine form Lisowska ) was a Polish noble family. At the beginning of the 16th century, the family belonged to the Szlachta in Pomerania and not yet to the magnates . After his family moved to Lithuania , this changed with Aleksander Józef Lisowski , who as a military man pulled some Cossacks to his side and formed a group of riders. The riders formed the Lisowczycy Lisowski Cossacks, who participated in battles against the Swedes and Russians with military success. By doing this, the family gained great prestige and fame.
