The city of Moosburg an der Isar has granted honorary citizenship to 12 people since 1879 . It pays tribute to those people who have made outstanding contributions to the city.

It is possible that further honorary citizenships had previously been granted. However, documents for this were destroyed in the great city fire of 1865.

The honorary citizens of the city of Moosburg an der Isar

  1. Vitus Schmitt (* 1816 in Beyharting; † January 29, 1881 in Moosburg an der Isar)
    Spiritual advice
    Awarded in 1879
    Schmitt worked from 1861 to 1878 as a pastor in Moosburg. He was honored for his services to the church, school and city, as well as the foundation of the city kindergarten.
  2. Karl Engel (* 1829 in Taufkirchen (Vils); † March 20, 1892 in Moosburg an der Isar)
    Awarded on June 15, 1887
    Engel was the city pastor in Moosburg from 1878 to 1892 and also district school inspector and chamberlain. He was made an honorary citizen for his services to city and church affairs.
  3. Sebastian Mark († March 30, 1903)

    Awarded on November 7, 1888
    From 1869 to 1892 Mark worked as a chief magistrate at the court in Moosburg. The reasons for the honorary citizenship are not known.
  4. Franz Knier (* 1821 in Munich; † November 24, 1901 in Moosburg an der Isar)

    Awarded on February 26, 1897
    Knier was a beneficiary and chapter chamberlain in Moosburg from 1864 to 1901. At Knier, too, the reasons for being granted honorary citizenship are no longer known.
  5. Franz Seraph Härtlmayr (born September 16, 1837 in Binabiburg, † August 18, 1914 in Moosburg an der Isar)

    Awarded on August 25, 1907
    Härtlmayer worked from 1892 to 1908 as city pastor and district school inspector. The city honored him with honorary citizenship for his services to schools and the city, as well as the foundation of the Moosburg orphanage. In addition, an alley is named after him.

    Ostenrieder is considered to be the founder of the chemical industry in Moosburg. A street was named after him.
  7. Dr. Michael Schottenhamel (born November 17, 1898 in Munich, † December 25, 1971 in Wörth an der Donau )

    With his company, Schottenhamel is considered to be the founder of the conveyor industry in Moosburg.
  8. Fritz Driescher (born December 18, 1910 in Kapellen; † December 4, 1986 in Moosburg an der Isar)

    Awarded on April 26, 1963
    With the award of honorary citizenship, Driescher's extraordinary gifts and foundations for homes and schools were honored. A street is named after him.
  9. Karl Weber (born October 31, 1894 in Neufraunhofen; † June 11, 1964 in Freising)
    Awarded on April 30, 1964
    Weber was a beneficiary and choir director in Moosburg from 1927 to 1964. He was made an honorary citizen in recognition of his services to youth education, music maintenance and local history research.
  10. Dipl.-Ing. Jakob Loef (born July 28, 1898 in Boppard; † December 6, 1992)

    His services to the establishment and development of the Steinbock company, as well as the promotion of young people in sports, were recognized.
  11. Max Bengl (born March 4, 1915 in Kempten (Allgäu), † 1996)

    Bengl was initially from 1946 to 1955 as a chaplain in Moosburg and from 1967 to 1984 as the city pastor. He was made an honorary citizen in appreciation and appreciation of his many years of work as a city pastor and his special merits in the renovation of the church buildings, the construction of the Catholic parish hall and the expansion of the kindergartens in Moosburg.
