The Lister Bad is the largest outdoor pool in the city and region of Hanover . It is located on the northern bank of the Mittelland Canal , which here forms the border between the List and Vahrenheide districts. Strictly speaking, the Lister Bad is not in the List, but in Vahrenheide. However, this part of the city only came into being around 30 years after the pool was built.

The pool has a swimmer's pool with an area of 1122 m², a 700 m² diving pool with diving boards or platforms at heights of 1 m, 3 m, 5 m, 7.5 m and 10 m, and a 1150 m² non-swimmer pool 95 m² teaching pool and a 135 m² paddling pool.

Special features of the Lister Bad are a warming hall, which is heated to the temperature of an indoor pool on cool days, as well as a swimming channel that leads from the warming hall into the swimmer's pool, which is heated to 22 ° C, so that swimmers do not have to stand outdoors in swimwear when it's cold . Because of these facilities, the season is usually a little longer than in other outdoor pools in the region; In 2017 it will run from May 1st to September 17th, and if the weather is favorable it will usually be extended until the end of September.

Another special feature is the solar system installed on the flat roofs of the pool in 2007, which supplies up to 100% of the heating energy. In bad weather periods, natural gas heating comes into play.

The Lister Bad was built in 1927 as one of the largest outdoor pools in Germany at the time and replaced several wild bathing areas on the neighboring Mittelland Canal. In 1975 it was extensively rebuilt and renovated.
