lit. (legal abbreviation)

lit. is the abbreviation for Latin littera (= letter ). It is used in jurisprudence to cite a specific point in a list of letters in legal norms.

Does Art. 73 Basic Law (GG) say :

" Article 73
(1) The Federation has exclusive legislation on:

10. cooperation between the Federation and the Länder

a) in the criminal police,
b) to protect the free democratic basic order, the existence and security of the federal government or a state (protection of the constitution) and

so z. B. a certain sub-point of this Basic Law standard as "Art. 73 para. 1 no. 10 lit. a GG ”. Sometimes it is also written “Art. 73 para. 1 no. 10 a) GG ". The German legislature today writes in laws: "Article 73 paragraph 1 number 10 letter a of the Basic Law".
