Lithosome

Lithosomes are small inclusions of inorganic material inside protist cells . Similar to a pearl , they are built up in concentric layers and surrounded by a simple membrane as vesicles .

Lithosomes can only be found in ciliates and acantharia . They are not exocytosed and nothing is known about their function.
