Located Message Service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Located Message Service (English for "localized messages" , abbreviation LMS ) is a telecommunication service for recording voice, text and multimedia messages via mobile radio with simultaneous location.

Working principle

Registration of the participant on the LMS server via the web front end - part of the LMS application - is possible, but not a requirement, before using the service.

A subscriber profile stored on the LMS server can contain additional, general information on the messages intended by the subscriber (e.g. category).

  • Subscriber calls or sends SMS / MMS to an LMS number.
  • The message is converted into a suitable file format by the provider of the LMS number (.wav, .mp3, .txt, .jpg, ...).
  • The LMS service starts a location request to the LBS service of the subscriber's network operator.
  • The subscriber's message (voice, SMS, MMS) is transmitted to the LMS server by the provider of the LMS number.
  • If there is a corresponding declaration of consent from the subscriber, the network operator of the subscriber determines his current position and also transmits this to the LMS server.
  • On the LMS server, the message, location information and any existing preset information (e.g. category) are combined to form the located message (LM) based on the subscriber's phone number and the start time of the message.

The LMS makes located messages generated in this way available to requesting applications ( web service , SOAP, etc.).
