Hole burning

Hole burning (Engl. Hole burning ) is a term used in laser physics . There are two types:

• Spatial hole burning , creation of spatial zones that do not contribute to the laser process
• Spectral hole burning , amplification of undesired frequencies due to oversaturation with inhomogeneous line broadening
