LodlanD

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LodlanD is a German pen & paper role-playing game that was published at the Spiel 2003 trade fair . It takes place in a bleak future in the oceans; the surface of the earth is uninhabitable due to extreme cold. The name of the system comes from the trading city of Lod, which is a central point in the world. There are a variety of campaigns that can be settled in the background world and are supported by the game system. So not only classic hero campaigns can be played, but also, for example, traders, media participants, researchers, security, military or pirates or pirate hunters. In addition to the adventures that play in or around submarines, city adventures are also possible.

The development of the role play was stopped in early 2010.

background

Mankind has developed a biological agent to filter the excess carbon dioxide out of the earth's atmosphere. However, this works more efficiently than expected, and the CO 2 is broken down so much that the earth cools down extremely. The new ice age kills a large part of humanity, the escape into space fails. So the earth's population is withdrawing into the oceans, the last habitable place. After mankind has saved itself in the oceans, it survived and developed there, domed cities or cities buried in underwater mountains serve as living quarters. Advanced technology ensured long-term survival in the inhospitable environment.

In contrast to end-time scenarios, the basic mood of LodlanD is more “hope” than “decline”; progress is presented as a positive path to the future. At the same time, however, the otherness of the environment is shown and the problems of humanity with their new life are also discussed. Furthermore, mankind has not become “better” because of the flight from the water, there are still conspiracies, criminality, in short, the dark sides of mankind.

Similar to “ Das Schwarze Auge ” the team of authors runs a metaplot (a continuous in-game story) that is presented on the website and in the source books, so that the world continues to develop, new factions emerge and disintegrate, and humanity advances (and regression) and positive and negative things happen in the world.

In Grundregelwerk a central group is represented by survivors: seven nations in the Council of the countries have come together. The Council of the States does not know whether other groups have saved themselves. Nevertheless, instead of a harmonious get-together there are permanent intrigues and hidden blows between individual members.

The members of the Council of the States are: Arbiträa, BFS (Federation of Free Cities), Kobe-Uppland, Lod, Scientia, Stawa and the UNL (Union of Nordic countries).

Opposite the Council of the States is the giant state of Liberty , which for the moment has concluded a fragile truce with the RDL and has to deal with an internal enemy, the Renegades. There are also pirates and a large conspiracy under the name “The Network”. Furthermore, the Japanese-inspired state of Teikoku exists, isolated and without contact to the other factions described .

Control system

The control system of LodlanD is with Cthulhu comparable percentage / W100 system , the basic rules are relatively simple, but can be made more complex by numerous optional rules. The basic set of rules contains, for example, both a simple and an extended ship combat system. While the simple ship combat system can resolve entire ship battles with just a few dice rolls (fast playability), the players in the extended system have significantly more options to intervene in the ship battle through their characters (individual stations support their throws among themselves, ship formations, torpedo defense measures or hit zone model). Each playgroup can decide for themselves which complexity they prefer.
