A local infection is an infection in which the causative pathogens remain in one place and there is no further involvement of the organism .

Examples are the common cold with an inflammation of the nasal mucosa alone or folliculitis as a purulent infection of the upper part of the hair follicle .

Counterexamples to a local infection are generalized infections such as B. Sepsis ("blood poisoning").
