Lord Somerville
Lord Somerville was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland .
Award
The title was created around 1445 for the Justiciar of Scotland, Sir Thomas Somerville .
After the death of the 8th Lord in 1618, the title was suspended because his brother, the de iure 9th Lord, did not use the title for unknown reasons. Only his descendant, the de iure 13th Lord, received confirmation of the title in his favor by the House of Lords on May 27, 1723 .
Since the childless death of the 19th Lord on August 28, 1870, the title has been suspended again, as none of his relatives have so far achieved the formally effective recognition of his claim to inheritance.
