from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lorenz Jacob Kuhn (* 1884 in Helenendorf , Azerbaijan ; † 1942) was an Azerbaijani politician of German descent. He was a member of the National Committee of the Caucasus Germans and a member of the parliament of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan . Lorenz Kuhn was married to Lena Hummel.

In 1918, Lorenz Kuhn received a mandate as a representative of the German minority in the then Azerbaijani National Council, which was formed on November 19, 1918 with 120 parliamentary seats. He was head of the Agricultural Commission in the Azerbaijani Parliament. His participation in the Azerbaijani parliament and especially in the Agricultural Commission seemed to underscore the interests of the German colonies.

Before the Second World War , the time for the German colonists, especially for members of the community and politicians, was marked by repression, arrests and deportations. There is a violent Russification and Armenization of Helenendorf. In 1938 Lorenz Jacob Kuhn was arrested by the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic .

In 1941 all German towns in Azerbaijan were evacuated by Stalin and the population was deported via Gəncə and Baku by ship to Krasnovodsk , now Turkmenbashy, and on to Central Asia . Lorenz Kuhn died in exile in 1942.
