Lori Hölzel (born Lori Ham ; born October 10, 1962 in Oceanside , California ), better known by her stage name Lori Glori , is an American singer, composer and music producer .

Life

Lori Glori was the youngest of four children. Her father, Clarence Ham Sr., was an ex- Marine who worked as a chef. He was also a deacon of Bayview Baptist Church in San Francisco, where the Ham family lived. Glori's mother, Deloris Ham, was the manager of a donut shop. Her two older sisters Denise and Angela, together with a third singer and a band consisting of a drummer, a bassist and a guitarist, formed the Bayview Specials , a figurehead of the church. When Glori sang in front of her sisters for the first time at the age of ten, they quickly swapped the third singer. The trio of sisters then became known in the Christian scene, they performed in churches and gave concerts. A little later they took part in a talent competition as the newcomer "Ham Sisters". As a result, they were hired as background singers for Tower of Power . For reasons unknown, Denise gave up the matter a little later. The "Ham Sisters" no longer existed.

Shortly thereafter, Glori was discovered as a singer by Bill Summers & Summers Heat and accepted into the band. She toured the United States with the band. On February 12, 1981, she gave birth to her first son to her ex-boyfriend. They lived together with Glori's parents. A little later, she got engaged to Bill Summers. She separated from him after the following tour of Germany and stayed in Germany to start a solo career there. However, after screwing up a tour with Jennifer Rush, she lost the chance for a solo album and moved back to America.

She gave birth to a daughter on June 20, 1987.

Glori got another tour offer from Germany and got to know Joe Hölzel, the owner of the transport company that was responsible for the technical equipment. She married him very pregnant and moved with him to Hanover. She released the song My Body & Soul and soon after became lead singer for the band Intermission . This also made it into the charts several times with the songs Give Peace a Chance and Six Days .

Next she went on the same tour that DJ BoBo was on. Intermission was his opening act, but DJ BoBo discovered her voice shortly afterwards and recorded 16 songs with her, which he bought from her for € 10,000. However, Glori was never seen at a DJ BoBo performance. DJ BoBo's wife Nancy always moves her lips to her voice. A lawsuit that lasted for years began, which was decided in DJ BoBo's favor. She moved to San Francisco with her husband and three children, but went to Amsterdam for a tour. As their marriage was in crisis, her husband left her with their son shortly afterwards.

In San Diego prison, she found her way back to God and began singing again. She wrote the song Show Me the Way straight from the heart. After serving a two-year prison term, she moved back to live with her parents. Until 2012 Glori lived near Basel in Switzerland and taught voice training and rhythm training as well as tips on stage shows and interviews.
