Pilot study

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pilot study (Engl. Study pilot , also Lotstudie ) is a short-term and / or low-cost study, the suitability of a thesis , the marketability of a product or the consent of the public on a particular subject by the application and testing on a small scale, based on the opinion of , Evaluation and the taste of a small manageable group representative or ad hoc (= judgment sample ) of selected persons.

After evaluating the results, it can be seen whether the pilot study has clearly confirmed the previous assumption (i.e. the actual project can be tackled), whether it has refuted it (i.e. the actual project is not carried out), or whether because of contradicting or less meaningful assumptions Results a new, possibly extended study is necessary (ie a more precise second pilot study is required).
