from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lotus 73 was a Formula 3 racing car built by the British motorsport team Lotus .

The Lotus 73 was the last Formula 3 car built by Lotus in 1972. Two vehicles were painted in the colors of the team sponsor, the British cigarette brand John Player . The vehicles therefore looked like the small offshoots of the Lotus 72 . However, unlike the Formula 1 cars, the Formula 3 vehicles did not have a rear wing .

The car had a central monocoque with a subframe for the front suspension, the Nova engine with the power transmission and for the rear suspension. The radiators were on the side and the brakes on the inside.

The car was mainly used in the British Formula 3 championship . The driver was Tony Trimmer . In the meantime, however, this racing series has been dominated by the March brands and the Lotus 73 fell far short of its expectations.

When Lotus turned away from Formula 3 in late 1973, a car was sold to Dr. Honestly sold. He used the vehicle as Ehrlich-Lotus in Great Britain in 1975.
