The TV series
Based on the books, the British television broadcaster BBC produced the television series Lovejoy , which was broadcast from 1986 to 1994. After being dismissed in 1986 as a one year wonder , it was returned to the program as a regular broadcast in 1991.
In the TV version, the author's request to keep the first name of "Lovejoy" a secret was granted. However, a guest in the series claimed that the first name was "Malcolm", which Lovejoy himself neither denied nor confirmed.
