Lu Zhaolin

Lu Zhaolin ( Chinese  盧照鄰  /  卢照邻 , Pinyin Lú Zhàolín ) (* around 637 in Fanyang ; † 689 ) was a Chinese poet who lived in the Tang period . He drowned himself in 689.

He was plagued by a serious illness, which is why he resigned from the civil service in 673 to study Daoist alchemy for the purpose of healing . However, this venture was unsuccessful.

Lu Zhaolin called himself Master of Hidden Grief (Youyouzi) and his work is characterized by a painful mood. About 100 pieces of this work have survived. These include poems in the style of Yuefu , in the style of Han-Fu , in the style of the lament of Li Sao and five- and seven-line rule poems (Lüshi).
