Lucifer-Gnosis was a theosophical journal published in Berlin by Rudolf Steiner , the founder of anthroposophy , which already represented the first anthroposophical ideas before the founding of the Anthroposophical Society . The first edition appeared in January 1904, the last in May 1908; the frequency of publication was monthly until the end of 1905.

history

After Steiner became General Secretary of the German Section of the Theosophical Society on October 19, 1902 , he found it necessary to publish his own magazine. In this he specifically wanted to present his view of the theosophical teaching and his findings, parallel to the Vahan , an already existing theosophical journal, which represented the official teaching of the Theosophical Society Adyar . In June 1903 Steiner brought out the first edition of his paper Lucifer - Journal for Soul Life and Spiritual Culture - Theosophy . With this title he did not mean Satan , as handed down in the Christian tradition, but the "lightbringer" described under Lucifer . Nevertheless, the naming was and is sometimes mistakenly seen as an indication that Steiner was a pioneer of Satanism .

After seven editions, Lucifer merged with the occult journal Gnosis , published by Viennese theosophists : the first edition appeared in January 1904 as Lucifer with Gnosis . At first there were smaller contributions from Vienna, but Steiner wrote most of the articles in Lucifer-Gnosis himself and also acted as editor and editor. Practically the only support he received from his secretary Marie von Sivers , who translated Les Grands Initiés and Les enfants de Lucifer for Lucifer-Gnosis Schurés . As Steiner's lecturing activities grew, there were repeated delays in the completion of the magazine and, as a result, delays in deliveries: in 1906 only one issue appeared, in 1907 two more followed. Steiner found no more time for an orderly publication and was forced to stop the publication of the paper. In May 1908 the last of a total of 28 issues was published.

In this year 1908 Marie von Sivers founded the Philosophisch-Theosophischer Verlag in Berlin , which was renamed Philosophisch-Anthroposophischer Verlag in 1913 . Steiner's writings have since appeared through this distribution channel.

content

At the beginning, theosophical themes predominated in Lucifer Gnosis, but Steiner gradually reformed the theosophical terminology in the sense of his later anthroposophy and designed the articles with a view to the anthroposophical “human awareness”. Viewed from this point of view, he also presented his scientific and humanities topics in the paper, just as his treatises on yoga and meditation were influenced by them. The works, which were later published in book form, were published in sequels in Lucifer-Gnosis. How does one acquire knowledge of the higher worlds? , From the Akashic Record , The Levels of Higher Knowledge , Theosophy and Social Question, and The Education of the Child from the Perspective of Spiritual Science . Although it was actually propagated as a theosophical magazine when it was published, after the separation from the Adyar Theosophical Society in 1912/13, the paper was considered anthroposophical.
