Ludwig Strobel (* in the 19th century; † in the 19th or 20th century) was a photographer . He was active in Kempten in the 19th century .

Life

Advertisements in the local newspapers suggest that Strobel ran a studio in Kempten from around the 1850s; possibly he established himself there in 1852 “in the former blacksmith's guild next to the town hall.” In an early advertisement he described himself as a “ daguerreotypist , photographer and painter”, a few years later he offered photographs on paper, glass and oilcloth. In 1861 he modernized his studio and mentioned in an advertisement that it was now "furnished with staffage and machines, especially for the popular album portraits".

In 1864 he moved the studio, which was apparently combined with his residence, behind the Gasthaus zum Steffele. The location “next to the gym”, which he had printed on the back of his pictures, was later used by his successor JM Rauch, who worked until about the time of the First World War and owned a publishing house and a so-called art institute. While Strobel still seems to have concentrated on studio photography, Rauch created, often using the name “M. Rauch ”used numerous landscape photographs, which were also sold as postcards.

In addition to the German, Strobel also used the French form of his first name, "Louis".
