Lukaskirche in Langenfeld

The Lukaskirche is the Protestant church in the Langenfeld district of Richrath ( Mettmann district ) and one of four churches in the Langenfeld Evangelical Parish.

Building history

Until its own parish hall was built, the parish in Richrath was looked after by the Church of the Redeemer in Immigrath . In February 1964 a separate pastor's office was set up in Richrath. Initially, the parish hall also served as a place of worship, and plans for a church were already in progress. A free-standing church with a bell tower was planned . The suggestion to combine the parish hall and church in one complex and thus to link parish work more intensively with the church came from a trip by the pastor to the USA in 1966. The presbytery agreed to this proposal - the Solingen architect Wolfgang Nathow presented a new design. After detailed consultation, a bell tower and bells were dispensed with. In 1970 the foundation stone of the church was laid, which is indicated by a plaque at the church entrance ( 1 Tim 4,10  LUT ). In 1972 the church was consecrated and named after the evangelist Luke . The Mannesmann company , Langenfeld's largest employer at the time, donated special (seamless) tubes from which the crosses on the church and inside the church were made.

Interior design

The colorful, symbolic strip of light, a work by the Dutch glass painter Henk Schilling , relates to the biblical history of salvation.
