The Lutherse Kerk in Tiel

The Lutherse Kerk of St. Caeciliakapel ( German  Lutheran Church or St. Caeciliakapelle ) is the Evangelical Lutheran church of Tiel in the Dutch province of Gelderland .

history

The Lutherse Kerk was first mentioned in a document in 1494 as the St. Caecilia chapel of an Augustinian convent. The date of foundation of the monastery itself is unknown. The nave of the chapel dates from the 15th century; a higher, three-sided, late Gothic choir with a reticulated vault was added to it in the 16th century. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery became the property of the city of Tiel in 1578, but the chapel was only used for Reformed worship from 1634. In 1809, the city ceded the chapel to the local Reformed community on the condition that it would be available to the Lutherans for a small fee. The Lutheran congregation still uses the chapel for their worship services today.

The Lutheran parish of Tiel is now part of the municipality of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was established in the city in 2004 .
