The Lutz Röhrich Prize of the Walter Kahn Fairy Tale Foundation is currently endowed with 2500 euros. It has been awarded annually since 1994 for folkloric, historical-comparative narrative research to promote young academics. The winner is determined either from personal applications or through suggestions from university lecturers. The submitted work must not have received an award and will be awarded by an expert jury. It is up to the jurors not to award the prize or to split it among different applicants. The Lutz Röhrich Prize is financed from the Walter Kahn Fairy Tale Foundation .

The prize is named after the folklorist and narrative researcher Lutz Röhrich (1922–2006). In 1991 he was the winner of the European Fairy Tale Prize , which is also awarded by the Walter Kahn Fairy Tale Foundation .
