Lutz Röhrich

Lutz Röhrich (born October 9, 1922 in Tübingen ; † December 29, 2006 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German folklorist and storyteller .

Career

Immediately after graduating from high school in 1941, Röhrich was drafted into military service and released in 1944 after being severely wounded. Between 1945 and 1950 studied Röhrich German , history , musicology and Latin in Tübingen and was with the work The demonic figures of Swabian folk tradition , a study of 2,000 people beliefs of the southwest German space archival with recourse sources doctorate .

Subsequently Röhrich became an assistant at for four years the German Institute of the University of Mainz , where he joined in 1954 in Germanic philology and folklore with the work of fairy tales and reality habilitated . From 1959 he was an adjunct professor in Mainz until he became the first holder of the chair for folklore at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau in 1967 . Two years later he was also appointed head of the German Folk Song Archive. In 1990 he retired .

Right from the start, Röhrich was co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Fairy Tales and the yearbook of the Brothers Grimm Society . He was also the editor of the Motive series . Freiburg folk research (from 1971 to 1977) and Artes Populares (from 1976 to 1992).

Röhrich was a co-founder of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research and was its vice-president between 1979 and 1989 . In addition, he was a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , the Gustav Adolf Academy for Folk Research in Uppsala and the Finnish Literature Society . Finally he was a member of the Folklore Society London and an honorary member of the Folklore Fellows Helsinki .

Röhrich became known to a wide audience through the publication of the Lexicon of Proverbs (1973).
