Mérida initiative

The Mérida Initiative is a United States government initiative to combat drug trafficking in South and Central America. The main aim of the plan is to support the Mexican government in the drug war .

history

The initiative was launched in 2007 under George W. Bush .

2008 and 2011 1.7 billion, about US $ approved. The money should be used for training and equipment such as helicopters and security services vehicles.

In 2011, approximately $ 474 million had been accessed through early August.

In December 2011, the United States Senate approved a budget of $ 249 million for 2012.
