Mökkurkalfi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mökkurkalfi is a figure in Norse mythology. It was created to support the giant Hrungnir , who had challenged Thor , the god of thunder, to a duel a little prematurely. It was made of clay, nine miles tall and three miles wide. His heart was that of a mare, but Mökkurkalfi was also cowardly and fearful and that ultimately became his undoing. While Thor killed Hrungnir with the hammer Mjöllnir , Mökkurkalfi was defeated by Thor's youthful assistant Thialfi .
