Monk Fanzhou Pagoda

The Monk Fanzhou Pagoda ( Chinese  泛舟 禅师 塔 , Pinyin Fànzhōu Chánshī tǎ , English Monk Fanzhou's Pagoda ) in Yuncheng ( 运 城市 ) in the Chinese province of Shanxi is a pavilion-style pagoda from the Tang Dynasty . It is located in the northwest of Yuncheng in the village of Sibeiqu ( 寺 北 曲 村 ). The Baoguo Temple ( 报 国寺 ) to which it belonged has long been destroyed. It is a single-storey brick pagoda, its total height is ten meters, its diameter at the bottom 5.75 m.

The pagoda was the tomb of Master Fanzhou, an important Buddhist monk from the Tang Dynasty . According to an inscription on the pagoda, it was built by an army commander of the Tang Dynasty after his death. Construction of the pagoda started in the 9th year of the Zhenyuan era (793), the inscription dates from the 2nd year of the Changqing era of the Tang Dynasty (822).

The Monk Fanzhou Pagoda has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-250) since 2001 .
