The Munich university riots were unrest staged by the National Socialist German Student Union , which paralyzed Ludwig Maximilians University for several days at the beginning of July 1931 .

history

The reason for the riots was a lecture by the constitutional lawyer Hans Nawiasky on June 23, 1931, in which he compared the Peace Treaty of Versailles with the peace treaties concluded by the German Reich with defeated states during the First World War . After several inflammatory articles in the Völkischer Beobachter and a smaller protest event, a demonstration with around 1200 participants took place on June 30th. After being evicted by the police, the university was closed and only reopened on July 6th.
