Coin band

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Münzbund is a contractual amalgamation of two or more neighboring coin stands with the aim of maintaining the stability of supraregional large and commercial coins in an area characterized by weak central power (such as the medieval German Empire in particular ) . As a rule, the minting associations had little influence on the minting of the small coins . After a heyday in the 14th century, the functions of the mint associations were then increasingly taken over by the territorial and state rulers, who were endowed with growing financial power.

The most successful German coin alliances are the Rheinische Münzverein , the Wendische Münzverein (Hanseraum) and the Rappenmünzbund (Upper Germany).
