Coins of Ecuador

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Although the US dollar has been the national currency since September 9, 2000, Ecuador has its own coins . The coins are used as a sub-unit of the US dollar , parallel to the cent . According to the American designation cent , the coins are called Centavo (Pl .: Centavos) . The official designation for these coins is Centavo del Sucre , where it is stated that 100 centavos are equal to one US dollar. The coins therefore correspond not only to the US cents in size and weight, but also in value.
